Citizens of 15 municipalities or urban settlements of Nepal in the Terai region discussed Civil Code Draft Bill in the Town Hall Meeting held in January 2012. Citizens were very euphoric that they received an opportunity to learn about the Draft Bill that is very much related to their daily lives. During the program, citizens learnt about legal provisions on marriage, partition of ancestral property, will paper and inheritance. Apart from the general perspective, these provisions were also viewed from women's perspectives. Lawmaker Shobhakar Parajuli who is also the member of the Statutes Committee in the Constituent Assembly, participated in the Town Hall Meeting of Birgunj. He said he would make his best attempt to incorporate the views of citizens in the draft bill.
This is a tradition of the Town Hall Meeting that lawmakers belonging to different political parties participate in the program so that they would directly hear the voice of citizens in regard to law making process and democracy could be strengthened from the grass-roots level.
The 15 districts where the program was held include: Saptari, Siraha, Dhansuha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Kaplivastu, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Banke, Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari.
